A 1st: Sitch prospects men’s group to NCAA soccer title


Julianne Sitch grew to become the very first lady to coach a men’s soccer system to an NCAA championship when she led the College of Chicago past Williams Faculty 2- in the Division III title game Saturday.

Sitch, a former star player for DePaul and the NWSL’s Chicago Pink Stars, guided the top rated-seeded Maroons to a 22–1 document in her first calendar year as mentor. The shutout get Saturday arrives just eight months following Sitch returned to Chicago as head coach following serving two former stints as an assistant with the crew.

It was the very first NCAA men’s soccer title in the program’s background and capped a period in which the Maroons established a faculty history for wins.

Sitch is a person of only two women of all ages coaching a men’s NCAA soccer staff in Division III (NYU’s Kim Wyant is the other).

“The credit goes to the group,” Sitch reported following the win in Salem, Virginia. “I indicate, these men have under no circumstances had a female coach ahead of, and they embraced me as just one of their have. For me, that will without end be a grateful second.
