Road‑movement blueprint for Oct 6‑9
Starting Tuesday, Agra will roll out a comprehensive traffic scheme to cope with the influx of pilgrims attending the Shri Ram Barat and the three‑day Janakpuri festivities. The plan outlines specific road closures, alternate routes and dedicated entry points to keep the city moving.
Ban on medium‑ and heavy‑weight trucks on NH‑19
During the Janakpuri celebrations, trucks exceeding a certain weight will be prohibited from using a designated stretch of National Highway‑19 between 3 p.m. and 1 a.m. each day. Vehicles approaching from Gwalior toward Firozabad, Hathras and Etah will be diverted through Rohta Canal Junction and the Inner Ring Road, while traffic from Jaipur will be guided via the Mahuar Cut and the Southern Bypass. On the day of the Ram Barat, NH‑19 will operate normally for light traffic, but heavy‑weight vehicles will be barred from entering the municipal limits.
Street closures along the Ram Barat procession
The Ram Barat convoy will trigger the shutdown of several lanes in the historic core. Access between Belanganj and Ghatiya Azam Khan will be suspended, along with links connecting Ghatiya to Phulti, Hospital Road to Fawwara, and the Manakamneshwar Gate to Daresi. From noon onward, auto‑rickshaws, e‑rickshaws, loading tempos and private cars will be prohibited from entering Rawatpara, Subhash Bazaar, Chimman Puri and Daresi. Additional restrictions will come into force at 4 p.m. for Chhata Bazaar, Kachhari Ghat and Belanganj as the procession advances.
Janakpuri corridor restrictions
On October 7, the Ram Barat tableau will proceed from Manakamneshwar Temple to the Janakpuri venue. The segment linking Bhawna Estate intersection to Janakpuri Mahal will be closed to all traffic. The entry ban on this corridor begins at 11 p.m. on October 6, and any previously issued exemption passes will be rendered null for the duration of the event.
Designated gates for devotees
Five exclusive gates will channel worshippers into the Janakpuri grounds:
- KK Nagar Cut
- Purushottam Khandelwal Cut
- Bhawna Estate Cut
- Bullet Adda Showroom Cut
- Amar Ujala Cut
Additional access points are available via Sikandra Tiraha, Purushottam Khandelwal Cut and the Gurudwara Cut.
Parking allocations
Seven parking zones have been earmarked for festival‑goers. Notable capacities include roughly 700‑750 spaces at Naveen Jain’s plot, 300‑350 at Kamal Chaudhary’s site, and about 200‑225 across three parcels near Dev College. A vehicle‑free corridor will stretch from the barrier beside Bhawna Estate Apartments through Janak Mahal to Ramraghu Apartments; residents may pass only with valid proof of residence.
Overall crowd‑management approach
These extensive bans are designed to accommodate the massive crowds expected at both celebrations. Police have segmented the city into zones and sectors, while security teams will monitor the Ram Barat route with drones. Commuters are urged to plan journeys around the revised routes and respect the time‑bound restrictions. All measures remain in effect until each program concludes, after which normal traffic conditions will be restored.
