Fast‑Tracked Expansion and New Milestones
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda underscored the meteoric rise of AIIMS Bilaspur, pointing out that the centre has already exceeded its original 750‑bed blueprint and is now operating with 776 beds. In a remarkably short span, the hospital has introduced 26 specialty and 15 super‑specialty programmes, covering everything from complex cardiac catheterisations to cutting‑edge radiotherapy and neurosurgical procedures.
Surge in Patient Footfall
The outpatient department (OPD) has logged more than 12 lakh consultations over the last four years, while inpatient admissions have crossed the one‑lakh threshold. In the fiscal year 2024‑25 alone, OPD visits topped three lakh and diagnostic examinations surpassed ten lakh, reflecting the community’s growing confidence in the institute’s capabilities.
Academic Achievements and Leadership
AIIMS Bilaspur admitted its first MBBS cohort in January 2021 and was officially inaugurated in October 2022. The recent convocation marked the graduation of that inaugural batch, a landmark event for the institute’s teaching mission. President Droupadi Murmu, who graced the ceremony, urged the new doctors to centre their practice on service to humanity and to deliver quality care to the remote corners of Himachal Pradesh.
Enlarging Clinical Capabilities
Beyond the expanding bed capacity, the hospital now provides a full suite of high‑end interventions: major surgeries, cardiac procedures, dialysis, comprehensive diagnostics, and a dedicated cancer‑care unit. Faculty and staff have been praised for achieving this scale of growth at a speed that typically takes newer AIIMS campuses many more years to match.
Future Outlook
Minister Nadda expressed firm belief that, within the next two to three years, AIIMS Bilaspur will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the nation’s premier AIIMS institutions. Ongoing investment in specialised departments and a patient‑first ethos are set to cement its status as a leading hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in Himachal Pradesh.
