Muzaffarpur, Bihar – On 15 October, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary officially opened the state’s flagship Mega Footwear and Accessories Park, situated within the Mahwal Industrial Area of Motipur block.
Scale and objectives
The 62‑acre facility is intended to breathe new life into Bihar’s leather and footwear manufacturing ecosystem. Five dedicated leather units are slated to start up, collectively expected to generate roughly 2,100 jobs for locals and surrounding districts.
Plug‑and‑play infrastructure
Developed by the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), the park offers ready‑made G+2 sheds that can be occupied immediately. This turnkey model eliminates the time‑consuming and capital‑intensive process of constructing a plant from the ground up, making it especially attractive to SMEs seeking rapid market entry.
Shared‑equipment centre
A key attraction is the Common Facility Centre (CFC), equipped with machinery valued at about ₹8.5 crore. The pay‑per‑use arrangement lets emerging manufacturers tap into high‑precision equipment without heavy upfront investment, aligning costs with actual production volumes.
Inauguration highlights
The ceremony drew senior officials such as Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Rajbhushan Nishad, and Vaishali MP Veena Devi. The guests toured the sheds and CFC, underscoring the park’s potential to nurture entrepreneurship.
Security protocols
To safeguard the high‑profile event, district authorities imposed a five‑kilometre no‑fly zone and deployed extensive ground security, ensuring an orderly inauguration.
Projected economic impact
By providing modern machinery and ready‑made infrastructure, the park lowers entry barriers for small manufacturers and is poised to become a catalyst for Bihar’s leather and footwear sector. While full effects will materialise once the factories become operational, early signs point to a substantial boost in employment and a stronger industrial base for Muzaffarpur.
