New Delhi. In the days leading up to a high‑stakes INDIA alliance summit, a series of large‑format billboards bearing pointed messages at opposition leaders have sprung up across central Delhi. The messages vary, but all aim at senior figures of the anti‑BJP camp. No party or group has yet claimed responsibility for the displays.
Simultaneously, the constituent parties of the INDIA alliance are convening at the Constitution Club, the historic venue near Connaught Place. The agenda is tightly focused on the Election Commission’s recent actions, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and the conduct of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Delegates intend to hammer out a coordinated strategy that can be presented in Parliament and on the streets.
Key issues on the table
Participants will scrutinise the SIR process, which critics say has compromised the integrity of voter lists ahead of upcoming polls. The alliance is also weighing a formal motion to demand the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, citing alleged procedural lapses and bias.
Who will be at the meeting?
Senior Congress stalwarts – Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi – are slated to attend in person. Trinamool Congress heavyweights Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are also expected, alongside representatives from other regional partners. Some parties may send only a handful of delegates, but the gathering promises a broad cross‑section of opposition leadership.
The Election Commission, for its part, has defended its internal debates as routine institutional discourse, insisting that all decisions are rooted in established legal frameworks.
The INDIA alliance’s deliberations are expected to move beyond discussion to concrete action plans, including parliamentary interventions, coordinated protests, and a joint communication strategy to counter the SIR narrative.
The sudden appearance of the billboards adds a visual dimension to the political tug‑of‑war, underscoring the heightened atmosphere surrounding the meeting. Until now, no official source has confirmed involvement in the billboard campaign.
