Dhanapur, Chandauli. In the early hours of Wednesday night, a seemingly secure, newly‑constructed house in Birna village was violently breached. A group of burglars slipped inside and walked away with approximately ₹1.6 lakh in cash along with a handful of gold ornaments.
The property belongs to Bhanu Maurya. The second‑storey extension is still under construction, so the family continues to live in their older dwelling while the new block remains locked each night.
Following their routine, the family secured the new house before retiring to the old one. Somewhere during the night, unknown intruders forced the locked doors and rifled through the rooms.
Cash and Gold Jewellery Stolen
When the Mauryas returned on Thursday morning, they discovered displaced furniture and valuables scattered across the floor. An inventory confirmed that ₹1.6 lakh in cash had vanished, together with a gold chain, a ring and several other pieces of jewellery.
The family promptly reported the incident to the local police station (PRV). Officers arrived swiftly, cordoned off the scene and began collecting forensic evidence.
Police Review CCTV Footage
Investigators examined the surveillance cameras installed around the premises. Preliminary checks show that the break‑in was captured on video, and the footage is now being scrutinised to identify the suspects.
Authorities are also probing how the thieves managed to bypass the locked doors and whether they possessed prior knowledge of the house’s temporary vacancy.
Community Demands Stronger Security
The robbery has heightened anxiety among neighbouring residents, who report a rise in similar thefts over recent weeks. Villagers are urging police to increase night patrols and bolster overall security in the area.
Local leaders have called for enhanced preventive measures, especially during periods when homes are unoccupied, to deter future break‑ins.
Police continue their investigation, working to trace the culprits and recover the stolen cash and jewellery.
