Congress Unveils Trio of Candidates for Maharashtra Legislative Council

The party has announced three aspirants for the upcoming biennial elections to the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Two seasoned legislators will contest again, and a fresh face has been introduced for the Amravati Teachers’ constituency.

Seasoned Representatives and a Fresh Entrant

Abhijit Wanjari will again vie for the Nagpur Division Graduates seat, while Jayant Dinkar Asagaonkar is set to defend the Pune Division Teachers seat. Both are sitting MLCs whose current mandates lapse in December 2026.

Joining them is Aditi Pohare, who will contest the Amravati Division Teachers constituency for the first time.

Five Seats Up for Election

The poll will cover three graduate constituencies—Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune and Nagpur—and two teachers constituencies—Amravati and Pune. All incumbents’ terms conclude on 6 December 2026.

MVA Alliance’s Coordination Efforts

The announcements arrive as the Maha Vikas Aghadi—comprising Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena (UBT)—continues internal talks on seat‑sharing for the council polls. While each party releases its own list, the alliance has pledged to harmonise its strategy ahead of the October ballot.

As the nomination window narrows, the contest for the five council seats is expected to intensify, promising a tightly fought race.
