Metro stations sealed off
In a pre‑emptive move ahead of the upcoming rally at Jantar Mantar, authorities have barred passengers from entering or exiting eleven Delhi Metro stations. The closures affect Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Lok Kalyan Marg, INA, Chawri Bazar, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and New Delhi. While platform gates stay shut, the interchange corridors at several of these hubs remain open for passengers to transfer between lines.
Police bolster presence
Delhi Police have deployed additional personnel around Jantar Mantar and surrounding areas, set up barricades at vulnerable points, and intensified surveillance and security checks. The administration has also issued restrictive orders for the New Delhi district to curb any potential disruptions.
Traffic alerts
The Delhi Traffic Police have warned motorists about severe congestion on routes leading to Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, Patel Chowk and Sansad Marg. Drivers are advised to seek alternative paths before entering the affected zones.
What lies ahead?
The station shutdowns are part of a broader security strategy. Officials will keep a close watch on the situation and may modify access to the stations if conditions change.
