Deoghar. A coordinated operation by the Deoghar Cyber Police and Madhupur Police resulted in the arrest of four men suspected of running a sophisticated cyber‑fraud network from the Madhupur police‑station area. Six smartphones and four SIM cards were confiscated during the raid.
The crackdown followed a tip‑off received by Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar. A special task force, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kailash Prasad Mahto, was formed to track down the perpetrators and execute the arrest.
The accused have been identified as Anish Das (Bariyahi Garha, Madhupur), Sumesh Mehra (Kharnna village, Sarath), Rahul Das (Rohini Ajan Tola, Jasidih) and Dinesh Das (Guniasol, Madhupur).
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to masquerading as customer‑care representatives of popular digital‑payment platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm. They lured victims with promises of cashback, PM‑Kisan benefits, electricity‑bill discounts and RTO‑challan waivers.
Once trust was established, they sent victims malicious APK files. After the files were installed, the fraudsters gained unauthorized remote access to the phones, enabling them to siphon money from the victims’ linked bank accounts.
Forensic teams are now conducting a thorough technical analysis of the seized devices and SIM cards. Investigators are also working to quantify the total number of victims and to trace the flow of the illicitly obtained funds.
All four individuals have been placed in judicial custody pending further legal proceedings.
