Nomination Lodged at the Uttarakhand Assembly

On Tuesday, senior BJP leader Dinesh Arya formally entered the contest for the state’s sole Rajya Sabha seat by submitting his nomination papers at the Dehradun Assembly. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, state BJP president Mahendra Bhatt, several ministers, legislators and senior party functionaries.

Arya’s Political Trajectory

Originating from Nainital district and belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, Arya has been a dedicated party activist for years. He previously headed the BJP’s Nainital district unit and has held important positions within the party’s Scheduled Caste Morcha. Currently, he serves as vice‑chairperson of the Uttarakhand State‑Level Drinking Water Monitoring Council, a post accorded the rank of Minister of State, and also functions as Public Relations Officer to Chief Minister Dhami.

Chief Minister’s Endorsement

“Dinesh Arya is a diligent cadre who has climbed the party ladder through steady dedication. Fielding a candidate from a modest background showcases the pathways open to members who consistently serve the organisation,” said CM Dhami.

He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the national leadership for their support of Arya’s candidature.

Implications for the Upcoming Election

The election for Uttarakhand’s lone Rajya Sabha seat is slated for 16 October. Incumbent BJP MP Naresh Bansal will vacate the position on 25 November when his term ends. Given the BJP’s comfortable majority in the state assembly, Arya’s victory is widely regarded as a foregone conclusion, sending a reassuring signal to party workers about the rewards of sustained organisational effort.
