Swiss President Guy Parmelin will touch down in Noida on Tuesday, marking a key moment in his three‑day state visit to India. He is slated to spend roughly two and a half hours touring the brand‑new Noida International Airport at Jewar.
The presidential entourage is expected on the airfield at about 11:30 a.m., with the visit concluding around 2 p.m. The program includes a guided walk through the passenger and cargo terminals, a briefing with senior airport executives, and an overview of the project’s construction schedule and future operational blueprint.
The Jewar initiative is driven by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd, a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG – the Swiss company that runs Zurich Airport. Parmelin will receive a comprehensive presentation on the venture and will inspect the evolving infrastructure first‑hand.
First state‑level aircraft to land at Jewar
Airport officials say Parmelin’s plane will be the inaugural international flight carrying a head of state to land on the runway. While cargo aircraft from Russia and China used the strip during the recent BRICS summit, this presidential arrival symbolizes a milestone for the nascent hub.
During the stop, the Swiss leader will also meet on‑site engineers and project managers, receiving updates on passenger amenities, cargo handling systems, cutting‑edge technology, and the overall operating model envisioned for the airport.
Business and technology ties take centre stage
Parmelin’s India itinerary coincides with a surge in economic and tech dialogue between the two nations. The schedule features discussions on trade, investment, education, research and innovation.
Accompanying the president are senior Swiss business figures and academic representatives, turning the Jewar visit into a platform for broader Indo‑Swiss collaboration across industry and research.
Airport gears up for global traffic
Noida International Airport has already launched commercial flights and is preparing for a wider roster of international services. The Swiss delegation’s assessment of passenger and cargo facilities will be crucial as the airport aspires to become a major aviation gateway for the National Capital Region.
Heightened security protocols have been put in place ahead of the presidential arrival, with layered protection measures and dedicated traffic routing to ensure a smooth passage for the delegation.
This high‑profile visit highlights Switzerland’s stake in the Jewar project and opens new avenues for India and Switzerland to deepen cooperation in business, infrastructure, technology and investment.
