Incident Summary

On Monday morning, a bus careening at excessive speed lost control on the Jwalapur stretch of Haridwar near Durga Chowk. The driver swerved onto the shoulder, striking an auto‑rickshaw and four cars that were stationary along the curb.

Vehicles Involved and Injuries

The collision left the auto‑rickshaw operator, Trilok Singh Gusain, with serious injuries. He was immediately taken to Jolly Grant Hospital’s tertiary care unit for intensive treatment. The bus also hit a dog, which died on the spot, and caused extensive damage to the four cars and the rickshaw.

Eyewitness Response

Bystanders rushed to the scene, creating a chaotic environment as they attempted to aid the injured driver. The sudden gathering of people and the wreckage forced traffic to halt for several minutes, causing a temporary bottleneck.

Police Measures

Jwalapur police reached the location shortly after the crash, cordoned off the area, and placed the bus driver under arrest. The vehicle itself was also seized while officers began reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the loss of control.

Investigation Status

Preliminary findings suggest that reckless speed was a primary factor, but investigators are reviewing all available evidence—including driver statements and onboard data—to reach a definitive conclusion. The injured rickshaw driver remains under medical observation, and further legal action will follow the completion of the inquiry.
