Jamui. The central figure in the Jamui incident – where two under‑age pupils were purportedly harassed and assaulted – suffered a gunshot wound to his leg during a police encounter on Tuesday. Nandan Yadav was hit, taken into custody and rushed to Jamui Sadar Hospital for medical care. The development follows a widely shared video that ignited public fury.
According to authorities, the alleged attack occurred on 19 September when a group of men intercepted the two minors. The episode was filmed, and the footage later spread across social networks, prompting police to identify the participants and launch arrests. Three suspects had already been detained and a Special Investigation Team was set up to probe the matter.
In the latest sweep, police teams conducted raids along the Jamui‑Lakhisarai border near Kunder to locate the remaining accused. Officials say the suspects tried to flee, leading to an exchange of fire that left Nandan Yadav wounded in the leg before he was escorted to the hospital.
Another alleged participant, Hareram Yadav, is also reported to have sustained injuries during the confrontation, though details of his condition are still under review.
District Magistrate Naveen Kumar visited the hospital, received briefings from officials and monitored the situation. Law‑enforcement units continue their search for the rest of the alleged perpetrators and are scrutinising the circumstances of the encounter.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The case drew national attention after the harassment video circulated online. Police have been analysing the clip to pinpoint each suspect’s role and to prevent the dissemination of any material that could reveal the minor victim’s identity.
The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and is urging swift action.
Investigators say the probe is still active, with teams working to apprehend the remaining alleged offenders and to reconstruct the full chain of events.
