Statewide Home Guard Mobilisation for Durga Puja 2026
In anticipation of the forthcoming Durga Puja festivities, the Jharkhand police have rolled out a massive security initiative. Between 14 October and 23 October 2026, a total of 6,750 home guards will be posted at worship sites, major junctions and other high‑traffic zones throughout the state.
Final Touches in Ranchi and Across Districts
As the festival draws near, municipal authorities in Ranchi along with officials in other districts are putting the finishing touches on pandal décor and crowd‑control infrastructure. Expecting a large influx of devotees, senior police and administrative leaders have sanctioned extra layers of security to pre‑empt any untoward events.
Directive Flow and Inter‑Agency Coordination
The Directorate of Home Guards and Fire Services, led by the Director General‑cum‑Inspector General, has issued detailed orders to every district commandant. The circular mandates that the prescribed number of home guards remain on standby, ready to be deployed to senior police officers as operational demands evolve.
District‑wise Distribution of Personnel
- Ranchi: 600 home guards
- Jamshedpur: 500 home guards
- Hazaribagh: 500 home guards
- Giridih: 400 home guards
- Other districts—including Garhwa, Latehar, Khunti, Gumla, Chatra, Lohardaga, Simdega, Ramgarh, Koderma, Palamu, Dumka, Sahibganj and Seraikela‑Kharsawan—will receive forces proportionate to local requirements.
This allocation is calibrated to match expected crowd densities and the logistical challenges unique to each area.
Youth Brigades Augment the Effort
Alongside the home guards, specially trained youth brigades will assist at pandals, helping to maintain order and guide worshippers through congested zones. Their involvement is projected to lighten the load on regular police units and enhance overall crowd management.
Objective: A Tranquil, Uninterrupted Festival
The overarching goal of the administration is to guarantee that Durga Puja proceeds without disturbance, allowing devotees to worship Goddess Durga in a secure and serene environment.
