Kotdwar – A post on a social‑media platform sparked a confrontation that quickly escalated into a physical altercation between Deepak Kumar (also known as Mohammad) and local entrepreneur Sanjeev Tank. CCTV footage from the vicinity shows the disagreement spiralling from heated words to shoving and pushing.
Merchants Rally at Kotwali
When the video circulated online, a group of traders and labourers affiliated with the BJP marched to the Kotdwar Kotwali. The crowd chanted slogans and pressed authorities for immediate action against the alleged offender.
Police Place Suspect in Custody
To curb the growing tension, police officials placed Deepak Kumar in preventive custody. Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Thakur clarified that the detention followed a formal complaint lodged by Sanjeev Tank.
The ASP added that Kumar will be produced before the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate's court in accordance with due legal procedure, and that no individual is permitted to take the law into their own hands.

Authorities warned that anyone attempting to disturb public order or engage in unlawful conduct will face appropriate legal consequences.
