Kurukshetra: After a relentless five‑day effort, the lifeless body of a 36‑year‑old daily‑wage laborer from Ismailabad was retrieved from the Bhakra‑Narwana branch canal close to Kirmich village on Tuesday.

How the Body Was Discovered and Verified

Local villagers reported spotting a motionless figure near a canal siphon, prompting immediate notification of nearby divers. Diver Pragat Singh led the team that safely recovered the corpse from the water. Police cross‑checked the recovered individual against missing‑person alerts circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, confirming the identity as Dharmbir, also known as Bablu in the community.

Dharmbir, a father of three daughters and the primary earner for his household, was identified by his father Lal Chand and his brother, who arrived at the scene, verified the remains, and handed them over to the authorities. The body was then transported to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for a forensic autopsy.

Family’s Report of His Disappearance

According to relatives, Dharmbir left his home in Ismailabad on the afternoon of October 1 and never returned. After searching nearby fields, roads, and construction sites without success, the family lodged a missing‑person complaint at the local police station.

His father revealed that Dharmbir had been experiencing personal stress for some time and often complained of hand pain due to the physically demanding nature of his work. The three daughters range in age from 18 months to 12 years. Dharmbir lived separately from his brothers, and no known disputes or adversaries were reported.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

KUK police Sub‑Inspector Sudhir Kumar confirmed that officers arrived at the canal after receiving a tip about a possible body. Following identification by Dharmbir’s relatives, the remains were forwarded for an autopsy. Investigators stated that the next steps will depend on the post‑mortem results and any additional evidence uncovered during the inquiry.
