Prayer at Gurdwara Nanakmatta Sahib
Dehradun – On Monday, Uttarakhand’s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, visited Gurdwara Nanakmatta Sahib to offer his respects. He knelt before the inner sanctum, invoking peace, prosperity and the welfare of every resident of the state. In gratitude for his presence, the shrine’s management presented him with a traditional siropa and a commemorative token.
Rolling Up Sleeves: The Clean‑Up Drive
Immediately after the prayer, the CM joined volunteers for a hands‑on cleaning exercise on the gurdwara premises, part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. He swept, scrubbed and engaged in shram‑daan, stressing that hygiene must become a habit rather than a one‑off event.
Collective Care for Public Spaces
Addressing the assembled crowd, Dhami highlighted that safeguarding the sanctity of religious sites and maintaining their surroundings is a shared responsibility. He urged people to extend the same diligence to bus terminals, railway stations, hospitals, government offices and every other public venue.
Uttarakhand, he noted, sits prominently on India’s religious and tourism map, attracting countless pilgrims and tourists each year. Continuous public participation, he said, is essential to keep these high‑traffic locations clean.
Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and National Service Vision
The chief minister linked the initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for greater public service. He observed that the pillars of service, cleanliness and community involvement have gained fresh momentum under the Prime Minister’s leadership.

The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, launched in Uttarakhand on September 17 to coincide with the Prime Minister’s birthday, comprises a series of programmes focused on service, citizen dialogue and innovative solutions. The Nanakmatta clean‑up formed a key component of this broader effort.
Cleanliness as an Ongoing Movement
Dhami warned that cleanliness should never be limited to a single campaign. He called for sustained citizen involvement, turning hygiene into a lifestyle choice. According to him, collective action can keep temples, pilgrimage sites, tourist spots and public facilities clean, welcoming and dignified.
Key Participants
The event attracted a large gathering of public representatives, officials, gurdwara committee members and devotees. Notable attendees included District Panchayat President Ajay Maurya, BJP District President Kamal Jindal, Nagar Panchayat President Prem Singh Turna, former MLA Prem Singh Rana, Gurdwara Management Committee President Sardar Jogendra Singh, General Secretary Sardar Amarjeet Singh Boparay, District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria, SSP Ajay Ganpati and Chief Development Officer Divesh Shasni.
