Dehradun – Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami formally opened a suite of five development schemes worth a total of ₹20.55 crore at the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University campus in Selaqui. The ceremony included the laying of foundation stones for three flagship projects valued at ₹20.21 crore and the inauguration of two ancillary works costing a combined ₹34 lakh.
New Infrastructure Takes Shape
The announced initiatives comprise a contemporary administrative block, a cutting‑edge amphitheatre and a “Nakshatra Vatika” – a garden themed around constellations. In addition, the chief minister unveiled a grand new main gate and a modern dental hospital equipped with the latest technology.
During the event, CM Dhami offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati, laid flowers at the statue of the late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna and paid tribute to his enduring legacy. He emphasised that the university is a crucible for training the next generation of health‑care professionals and that these facilities will enhance the academic ambience while catalysing regional growth.
Dhami also underscored Uttarakhand’s commitment to producing skilled doctors, nurses and allied‑health workers, reminding the audience that the medical fraternity carries a profound social duty – saving lives and restoring hope. He reiterated that compassion, sensitivity and dedication remain the core values of the profession.
The chief minister disclosed that a proposal for a super‑speciality hospital on the university grounds has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Health, with implementation pending central clearance.
Healthcare Network Expanding Across the State
Aligned with the national agenda of strengthening health services, Uttarakhand is bolstering its own infrastructure. The state currently runs five government medical colleges, two more under construction, nine nursing colleges and three nursing schools.
Super‑speciality services are being upgraded at the medical colleges in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar. A world‑class cancer institute is under construction in Haldwani, while district hospitals and community health centres are receiving systematic enhancements.
In Kichha, Udham Singh Nagar, a ₹351 crore AIIMS satellite centre is taking shape to provide tertiary care to a vast catchment area. Tele‑medicine platforms, helicopter ambulance services and an accelerated recruitment drive for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff are further narrowing the health‑care gap for remote populations.
Uttarakhand Youth Finding Opportunities Abroad
State‑run foreign‑language training schemes are opening pathways to overseas employment. In 2023, sixty candidates were placed in Japan, while thirteen secured positions in Germany in 2025. One notable success story is Sapna Rana, who obtained a role in Germany after completing German‑language training.
Graduates from Uttarakhand institutions are also making their mark in premier Indian establishments such as AIIMS, PGI, Indian Railways and the Military Nursing Service.
More Than 35,000 Government Jobs Created in Five Years
Dhami reaffirmed the government's resolve to safeguard the future of the state’s youth. A stringent anti‑copying law now governs recruitment examinations, ensuring transparency. Over the last five years, more than 35,000 young Uttarakhandis have entered public service through merit‑based selections.
Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal confirmed that the administration continues to invest in modern infrastructure for medical colleges, guaranteeing high‑quality education and training for students.
