Lawyers Suspend Court Activities in Rohini
On Monday, members of the legal fraternity at Delhi’s Rohini Courts walked out en masse, refusing to attend any scheduled hearings. The Rohini Court Bar Association announced an outright boycott, citing the alleged assault on advocate Kamaldeep at the Mahendra Park police station.
Alleged Incident at Mahendra Park Police Station
According to the advocate, on 29 September he was subjected to verbal abuse and physical aggression inside the Mahendra Park precinct. The bar’s executive committee immediately escalated the complaint to senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and the DCP of the North‑West district, and also informed the Principal District and Sessions Judge.
Bar Accuses Police of Retracting Assurance
Initially, the association received a verbal assurance that the officers involved would face disciplinary action. Instead, lawyers claim a case was lodged against Kamaldeep, and senior police officials failed to disclose this development to the bar’s executive committee, violating the earlier promise.
Police Prohibited from Entering Court Complex
As part of the protest, the bar has barred all police personnel—irrespective of jurisdiction—from entering the Rohini Court complex, including the Nayab Court, for the entire day of 5 October.
Call for Unity Among Lawyers
The association urged its members to remain united during the boycott, stressing that the dignity, safety, and professional independence of lawyers must not be compromised. Any attempts to intimidate the legal community, it warned, will be met with lawful resistance.
The standoff underscores a widening rift between the Rohini Court Bar Association and police authorities over the handling of the September 29 incident. Further updates will follow as the matter proceeds through the appropriate channels.
