Accident Summary
At around 6 a.m. on Saturday, a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus bound for Pathankot from Manali toppled near the Police Line area of Bashing in Kullu district. The vehicle, which had four passengers in addition to the driver and conductor, rolled onto its side, causing injuries ranging from minor cuts to serious trauma among all six occupants.
People Injured
The casualties comprise four passengers – Shyam Lal, 45, Krishna Thapa, 42, Chhaya Devi, 25 and Rakesh Kumar, 31 – as well as the driver Manmohan Singh, 42. The conductor, Praveen, 46, suffered only light injuries. All six were immediately transferred to Kullu’s Regional Hospital for treatment.
Police Action and Probe
Police units reached the site shortly after the incident and have launched a formal inquiry. Investigators are collecting statements from witnesses and inspecting the road surface near the Police Line to ascertain whether driver error, mechanical failure or external conditions contributed to the overturn.
Importance of the Route
The Manali‑Pathankot highway is a vital corridor for locals and tourists alike navigating the Kullu valley. Because the bus was travelling early in the morning, its passenger load was relatively low, a factor that may influence the ongoing investigation.
Current Situation
Medical teams continue to monitor the patients’ conditions, while police officials have pledged to release further updates as the investigation proceeds.
