Gorakhpur: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has uncovered a covert arms‑distribution ring operating out of Gorakhpur, seizing a cache of guns and ammunition while taking a local individual into custody.
Detention of the alleged middleman
The person taken into custody is identified as Ramesh Dutt Tripathi, also known by the aliases Bolbam, Abhishek Pandit and Chhotu. He hails from Vinayak Nagar in the Yamunanagar area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Naini police station in Prayagraj. STF operatives intercepted him as he was reportedly awaiting a contact in the Siktaur locality.
Seized material
During the operation, the team recovered multiple firearms, a sizable stock of ammunition, and the suspect’s mobile device. All items have been placed under police custody while investigators work to trace their origins and intended destinations.
Broader probe underway
Initial interrogations hinted at connections extending beyond Uttar Pradesh’s borders. The STF is now examining Tripathi’s alleged associates, including an individual named Rajeev Yadav, to chart the full scope of the network.
Authorities are also looking into whether comparable weapons consignments have previously entered Gorakhpur or adjacent districts, and whether additional operatives were involved.
Legal action
CO Cantt Arun Kumar S. confirmed that a case has been filed against Tripathi under the Arms Act. Further judicial steps will hinge on the information uncovered during questioning and the ongoing investigation.
Next phases
The STF continues to verify the provenance of the confiscated weapons and pinpoint potential recipients. Officials cautioned that more arrests may follow as the inquiry progresses.
