When hours passed without any sign of him, relatives grew worried and began searching that night, continuing their efforts into the early hours of Tuesday.
Scooter Leads Searchers to the Drain
During the morning sweep, relatives spotted Shantanu’s scooter parked beside a drain near Soham Ashram. While examining the spot, they found the teenager lying face‑down inside the drainage channel.
The grim discovery devastated the family, who immediately notified the police.
Police Arrival and Ongoing Investigation
Officers from the Jhunsi police station arrived promptly, secured the scene, and launched a probe to piece together what happened between Shantanu leaving his home and being found in the drain.
Investigators are concentrating on the phone call he received, aiming to identify the caller, trace his movements after departure, and determine if anyone interacted with him during the night.
Autopsy Pending to Ascertain Cause of Death
At this stage, the exact cause of death remains unknown. Police have begun questioning nearby residents, gathering forensic evidence, and are treating the incident as potentially violent while also keeping other possibilities open.
A post‑mortem examination has been scheduled, and its results are expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the teen’s demise.
