Shocking Scene in Sutha Village
At dawn on Monday, villagers from Sutha – which falls under the Khudaganj police station – arrived at their local shrine to discover a grisly tableau: the two men who tended the temple had been brutally slain and their bodies ignited.
Who Were the Victims?
Gopaldas, a long‑standing resident of Azizganj, had been serving the Sutha temple for several years. Sharing the duties for about a month was Baba Bihari Das, a caretaker who came from a neighbouring shrine.
Prime Suspect Emerges
Early police leads point to Sumit Singh, a local who was released from prison roughly a month ago. According to neighbours, Singh often visited the two caretakers and expressed a desire to live on the temple premises, a demand that sparked a series of heated arguments.
Investigators say a dispute erupted on the night of the killings over Singh’s claim to the property, after which Singh vanished.
Community Reaction
Residents describe Singh as a man with a criminal record and a history of drug abuse. Many villagers kept their distance from him and reportedly opposed his return to the area after his release.
Police Response
Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit confirmed that Singh’s name surfaced early in the probe. Three dedicated police teams have been mobilised to locate him, while broader inquiries continue into the double homicide.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are examining every possible motive, from the personal feud that may have triggered the violence to the circumstances surrounding the burning of the bodies. Further updates will be provided as the search for the suspect progresses.
