Ghazipur – A joint operation by the district’s SWAT unit and Kotwali police culminated in the arrest of three local men accused of ferrying a substantial consignment of unlawful weapons into the city.
Large‑Scale Weapon Seizure
The raid took place close to Kaithwalia Pulia, where officers uncovered a stash of 38 firearms. The haul consisted of 19 pistols, 19 country‑manufactured guns and 18 cartridges. Officers also recovered three mobile phones, a motorcycle and a modest sum of ₹900 in cash.
Suspects Trapped While Attempting to Escape
Following a tip received on Thursday night about an impending weapons drop, SWAT commander Shailendra Pratap Singh and Crime Inspector Devendra Kumar Mishra secured the vicinity. When the three men on a motorcycle realized they were being monitored, they tried to flee, but the rapid‑response team had already encircled the area, compelling them to surrender without a struggle.
New Leads and Ongoing Raids
All three detainees are residents of Ghazipur and are suspected of being part of an interstate smuggling ring that sourced the arms from Khandwa and Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh. Interrogations revealed the existence of two additional accomplices. Police raids are now in progress in nearby localities to locate the remaining suspects and dismantle the larger network.
The arrests form part of a district‑wide crackdown on illegal firearms, ordered by the police chief, aimed at curbing the flow of unregistered weapons across state borders.
