Kullu/Nitthar. A tragic road mishap in Nitthar sub‑tehsil of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, has left the community reeling. Around 8:15 PM on Thursday, an Alto lost traction on the Dwarch road near Seri and tumbled into a gorge roughly 500 metres deep. Both occupants were killed instantly.
What happened
Witnesses say the vehicle was en route to Durah when, close to Seri, it sharply left the carriageway and fell into the abyss. The impact destroyed the car completely.
Rescue effort
Local residents, alerted by the crash, rushed to the site and joined the official rescue team. Police officers from the Nitthar outpost, together with villagers, faced a daunting task because of the gorge’s depth and rugged terrain.
From about 1 PM to 3 PM on Friday, they worked tirelessly to retrieve the bodies. Both remains were eventually hauled up to the road and taken to Civil Hospital in Nirmand for post‑mortem examinations.
Victims identified
The deceased have been identified as Hari Singh, a resident of Shah village in Lot Gram Panchayat, and Shyam Lal, who lived in Dwarch, Durah Gram Panchayat.
Investigation
DSP Anni Rajiv Mehta confirmed the fatalities. Authorities are currently probing the exact cause of the accident.
