New Delhi. In a high‑stakes operation just after midnight, Delhi police captured two individuals linked to a gun‑fire episode at a residence in Bhajanpura. Both detainees sustained gunshot injuries to their legs during the clash. The team also recovered three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle used by the pair.

Who were the arrested suspects?

The men taken into custody are identified as 23‑year‑old Jasim, locally nicknamed “Aloo,” a resident of Welcome, and 23‑year‑old Kaif, who goes by the moniker “DJ.”

What triggered the confrontation?

Police statements indicate that the duo opened fire on officers who tried to halt their escape. Several rounds struck the bullet‑proof jackets of the constables before the police returned fire, wounding both suspects and securing their arrest.

First account of the gunfire

The incident unfolded on 2 October at approximately 2:43 a.m. in Gali No. 16, Subhash Vihar, North Ghonda – an area under Bhajanpura police station’s jurisdiction. A resident on his balcony reported that two youths arrived on a scooter, brandishing pistols, firing at him and into the air, then sped away.

The stray bullets shattered the balcony’s glass railings and dented the external wall, but no one was hurt. A case was lodged invoking sections related to attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.

How investigators traced the culprits

A Special Staff team was mobilised to locate the suspects. By reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras and gathering tips from locals, police learned that the pair intended to ride a motorcycle from Nanaksar toward Usmanpur via Third Pushta Road.

Positioned along the suspected route, officers spotted the two men on a bike lacking a number plate at around 2:45 a.m. When ordered to stop, the men allegedly opened fire, prompting a police response that led to their apprehension.

Background of the accused

During the seizure, investigators recovered three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 rounds of ammunition, and the motorcycle used in the episode. A background check on Jasim revealed an existing Arms Act case registered with the Special Cell, whereas Kaif appears to have no prior criminal record.

Both suspects reportedly confessed to the balcony attack and claimed they acted on instructions from an individual known as Rashid, alias “Cablewala.” The probe now focuses on establishing the motive behind the shooting and identifying any additional participants in the plot.
