Background of the incident
Agra, Uttar Pradesh – Law enforcement officials have taken a woman into custody in connection with a violent episode that took place almost eleven months ago in the Barhan locality of Agra. The alleged perpetrator is accused of launching a knife attack on her brother‑in‑law after he purportedly declined to wed her sister.
Chronology of the attack
According to the FIR, the episode unfolded on the night of 20 October 2025, just after the Diwali festivities. The victim, employed as a chemical assistant engineer at a cement plant in Haldwani, had returned home for the holiday celebrations.
Inside the bedroom
Family testimony states that the man was sleeping outdoors after the Diwali puja when his sister‑in‑law beckoned him into a room at roughly 2 a.m. Once inside, she is alleged to have brandished a blade, inflicting serious wounds that threatened his life.
The victim’s screams awakened other relatives, who rushed to his side. Police arrived promptly, and the injured man was transported to SN Medical College for emergency care. Because of the gravity of his injuries, he was later referred to AIIMS Delhi for advanced treatment.
Escape and subsequent manhunt
Following the assault, the accused’s husband allegedly escorted her to her parents’ house in Etah. She then vanished from the village, eluding police attempts to locate her for months.
After a sustained investigative effort, officers finally traced her whereabouts to the residence of a distant relative, where she was apprehended without incident.
Legal repercussions
Attempt‑to‑murder charge added
DCP West Zone, Aditya Singh, disclosed that the medical report confirmed the victim suffered injuries that could have been fatal. In light of the findings, the police have upgraded the case to include an attempt‑to‑murder charge.
"The nature of the wounds indicates a clear intent to end the victim’s life. The suspect will face the full weight of the law," Singh remarked.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to piece together the motives and any possible accomplices.
