Dehradun – A shocking episode unfolded at Nalapani Chowk when a woman was allegedly forced toward a moving car in broad daylight. After the clip spread across social platforms, the Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission took suo motu cognizance of the case.
The incident occurred on a Wednesday morning. The victim, a resident of the Nalapani Chowk neighbourhood, was riding her scooter home after dropping her daughter at the college bus stop. Suddenly, a black vehicle with masked occupants shadowed her route and tried to usher her inside the car.
Displaying quick reflexes, the woman resisted and fought to free herself. Nearby, a group of female sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation witnessed the struggle, rushed to the scene, and confronted the assailants. Their intervention forced the perpetrators to flee.
Following the altercation, Chairperson Kusum Kandwal contacted SP (Rural) Jaya Baluni and Circle Officer Vandana Verma. Police officials confirmed that a First Information Report has been lodged at Raipur police station and that an enquiry is underway.
Three dedicated Special Investigation Teams have now been formed to trace the suspects. Authorities are scrutinising CCTV footage from the vicinity to pinpoint the vehicle’s registration and the identities of those involved.
Chairperson Kandwal urged the police to pursue every possible lead—whether rooted in personal vendettas, old grudges, or organized criminal plots. She praised the victim’s courage and the swift action of the women sanitation staff, emphasizing that any act that threatens women’s sense of security must be met with decisive legal action. The Commission has pledged to monitor the investigation closely to ensure accountability.
