What transpired
In the pre‑dawn hours of Thursday, personnel of the Border Security Force posted at the Rajoke Border Outpost in the Khalra sector of Tarn Taran observed a suspicious movement along the India‑Pakistan line of control. At roughly 12:35 a.m., three to four individuals were seen attempting to slip into Indian territory.
Sequence of the clash
Night‑vision footage captured the group edging toward the Indian side. BSF guards shouted verbal cautions, but the entrants pressed on, forcing the troops to open fire. Two of the trespassers were killed on the spot, while the third fled back across the border.
The bodies were retrieved and placed under BSF custody. Their identities have not yet been confirmed, though early intelligence points to Pakistani nationals. The Pakistani Rangers have been informed of the incident.
Post‑incident sweep
Following the engagement, security agencies launched an exhaustive search of the surrounding stretch on Friday. Teams are meticulously canvassing the terrain to verify whether any additional infiltrators managed to penetrate Indian soil.
The operation also aims to seize any weapons, narcotics, or other contraband that may have been hidden nearby. Authorities are examining possible links to cross‑border smuggling, a persistent issue in this corridor.
Possible smuggling angles
The Rajoke corridor has a long‑standing record of illicit trafficking, including drone‑borne drugs and arms. However, investigators have yet to uncover concrete evidence connecting the two deceased individuals to any organised smuggling ring.
Current investigative progress
Forensic teams are working to establish the identities of the slain suspects and to ascertain the exact motive behind the infiltration attempt. Further updates will be provided as the inquiry unfolds.
