New Punjab Congress Leader Visits Bangla Sahib Gurdwara

Chandigarh – Fresh from his inauguration as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Pargat Singh spent Saturday at the historic Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in Delhi, bowing his head in prayer and contemplating the challenges that lie ahead.

A Plea for Unity and “Sarbat Da Bhala”

Addressing reporters after the visit, Singh urged Punjabis to stand together, invoking the timeless Sikh maxim Sarbat Da Bhala – the welfare of all. He reminded listeners that Punjab’s strength has always stemmed from communal harmony, a shared cultural fabric, and a collective sense of duty.

No Room for Factionalism Within Congress

When questioned about circulating rumors of internal splits, Singh dismissed the notion of factionalism. He acknowledged that “differences of opinion are inevitable in any political outfit,” but insisted that the Congress must function as a single, united force. Emphasising his role as a team‑player, he pledged to involve senior leaders in shaping the party’s future roadmap.

Sharp Criticism of the AAP Administration

Singh did not shy away from targeting the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. He accused the government of mishandling public assets and the state’s finances, describing the current administration as a “castle of sand” that will soon crumble.

Condemning Divisive Tactics of the BJP

The newly appointed Congress chief also leveled a rebuke at the Bharatiya Janata Party, branding its strategy as polarising. Singh called for a political discourse in Punjab that prioritises the state’s interests and the well‑being of its people, rather than partisan rhetoric.

Key Priorities for the Revitalised Congress

Singh outlined his immediate agenda: championing issues that matter to Punjabis, bolstering the party’s organisational structure, and preserving the state’s legacy of social cohesion. His elevation follows the removal of Amarinder Singh and Raja Warring as state party chiefs, ushering in a new chapter for Punjab Congress under a collaborative leadership model.
