With the 2027 Punjab Legislative Assembly poll drawing nearer, the state’s leading political formations have switched into full‑throttle mode, deploying volunteers, road‑shows and issue‑centric rallies to court voters.
SAD initiates a door‑to‑door sweep across all 117 constituencies
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will kick off its ground‑level outreach on 6 October, setting out from Attari under the guidance of party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. The strategy calls for cadres to visit every household, log local grievances and suggestions, and feed this data into a manifesto slated for release on 1 November. A statewide bus tour, also headed by Badal, is slated to begin on 10 November, taking the party’s message directly to voters across the state.
AAP highlights its record in government
The incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) continues to leverage its time in power. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is touring assembly segments, meeting residents and showcasing flagship schemes such as free electricity and the ‘Mawan‑Dhian Satkar’ initiative. Party ministers and legislators have been urged to stay visible in their constituencies, reinforcing the narrative that AAP’s development agenda is delivering concrete benefits. In the 2022 election, AAP won 92 of Punjab’s 117 seats, forming the state government.
BJP amps up anti‑drug messaging with a massive yatra
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has placed the fight against drug abuse at the heart of its Punjab outreach. In September, the party launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, dispatching four convoys that covered roughly 4,000 km across all assembly constituencies. The tour culminated in a rally in Jalandhar on 30 September, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed supporters. Although the BJP secured only two seats in the 2022 Assembly poll and failed to win any of Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats in 2024, its vote share has shown a modest rise.
Congress wrestles with organisational renewal
The Indian National Congress has reacted to internal challenges by naming Pargat Singh as the new state president, replacing Raja Warring. Singh’s immediate mandate is to unite the party’s disparate factions, heal internal rifts, and rejuvenate its grassroots network ahead of the 2027 contest. In the 2022 Assembly election, Congress captured 18 seats, but improved its standing in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, winning seven of the 13 parliamentary seats in Punjab.
The ground battle is already in motion
Even with the poll still months away, the surge in door‑to‑door canvassing, bus tours and issue‑focused rallies signals that Punjab’s political arena is entering a decisive phase. While SAD is gathering voter input for its forthcoming manifesto, AAP is foregrounding its governance achievements, BJP is spotlighting the drug‑abuse narrative, and Congress is concentrating on rebuilding its organisational base. The coming weeks are likely to witness a flurry of constituency‑level events as each party strives to cement its support ahead of the 2027 elections.
