Initial claim of an electrical accident
On 3 October, staff at BPS Khanpur Hospital notified local police that a woman identified as Ramashwari appeared to have suffered an electric shock inside a flat in Sector 15, Sonipat. When officers arrived, they found Ramashwari’s daughter Janvi, a man called Vishal, and several relatives gathered at the scene.
Janvi repeatedly urged the investigators to limit any examination to the left hand, insisting the injury was confined to a shock transmitted through that limb. Vishal echoed the same request, arguing that a full‑scale post‑mortem was unnecessary.
After the police clarified the legal requirement for a comprehensive autopsy, the family reluctantly agreed. Because the procedure could not be carried out immediately, the body was stored in a freezer pending a next‑day post‑mortem.
Autopsy contradicts the electric‑shock story
The medical examiner’s report shattered the initial narrative. Rather than signs of electrocution, the findings indicated that Ramashwari died from suffocation, with distinct marks of pressure around her mouth and neck.
These revelations led investigators to reclassify the case as a potential homicide and to reassess the circumstances surrounding the death.
Suspects, relationships and possible motive
Further probing uncovered that Janvi and Vishal were romantically involved and were co‑habiting with Ramashwari in a rented house. Police suspect that the mother’s disapproval of the couple’s plans to wed may have created tension that escalated.
Vishal was taken into custody. During interrogation, he provided a detailed chronology of the events on 3 October, which authorities are cross‑checking against forensic data and the post‑mortem results.
Forensic findings and ongoing investigation
A forensic team examined the flat where the death occurred. Items recovered included a double‑bed sheet with what appeared to be blood‑stained smears and an electrical extension cord—both being scrutinised as possible attempts to stage an electrocution.
The case has been formally lodged at the Sector 27 police station, with ASI Sanjeev appointed as the investigating officer. Police are now matching the medical conclusions with the physical evidence collected from the scene and the statements of those involved to reconstruct the precise sequence of events.
Investigators stress that the probe remains active, and they will continue to analyse all forensic material, recovered objects, and witness testimonies before reaching a final verdict.
