In Tanakpur, Uttarakhand, a resident approached the Kotwali police station of Champawat district with a serious allegation: a man had initially presented himself as a Hindu, cultivated a friendship, and later forced her to adopt Islam and marry him. The police responded promptly, registering a case and taking the accused into custody.

The complainant narrated that the accused first introduced himself as a fellow Hindu, gradually building a close bond. As their relationship deepened, she discovered that he was actually Muslim. Upon learning his true faith, she says he began urging her to convert to Islam and to formalise their union.
She further alleged that the man threatened to upload her private photographs on social media platforms should she refuse his demands, adding a layer of intimidation to the purported pressure.
Law Enforcement’s Action
Champawat police treated the complaint with high priority. Following directives from the Superintendent of Police, investigators logged the matter under the relevant statutes and launched a comprehensive inquiry.
During the probe, officials gathered statements, digital evidence, and any pertinent documents. After evaluating the material, they proceeded with an arrest that complied with procedural norms.
Suspect Identified
The individual taken into custody has been identified as Nishad Khan, son of Naseeb Hussain, a 22‑year‑old resident of Manihargoth, Tanakpur.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have emphasized that the judicial process will uncover the factual truth, and any further steps will be dictated by the evidence uncovered.
"Any attempt to coerce someone into changing their faith or personal choices is a serious offense and will be dealt with according to law," said a senior police official.
