New Delhi – A 17‑year‑old girl is said to have been gang‑raped in the Astha Kunj area close to the Kalkaji Temple. Police have taken three men into custody, and one of them, 34‑year‑old Asif from Tughlakabad, was later shot during an encounter and is now recovering at AIIMS Trauma Centre.

How the alleged crime unfolded

According to the investigation, the teenager visited the Kalkaji Temple with a minor male friend. After completing their prayers, the pair entered Astha Kunj Park through Gate 7. Three men approached them, claimed to be policemen and threatened them.

The assailants allegedly separated the girl from her friend and led her to a secluded spot. Witnesses say Asif brandished a weapon and sexually assaulted the girl, while the other two men participated in the attack. After the assault, the trio fled the scene, leaving the victim and her friend terrified.

Police response and subsequent encounter

Following a tip‑off, officers from Amar Colony Police Station rushed to Astha Kunj, escorted the victim to AIIMS for a medical examination and secured the area for forensic teams. While canvassing for the suspects, police traced Asif to the vicinity of DM Office Road in Amar Colony.

When police attempted to apprehend him, Asif allegedly opened fire, discharging three rounds. One bullet struck the bullet‑proof vest of Head Constable Rajesh, prompting the officer to return fire in self‑defence. A shot hit Asif’s leg, and he was promptly taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. The other two accused have also been detained.

Investigation underway

An FIR has been lodged and a detailed probe is in progress. Authorities have confirmed the girl’s age as between 16 and 17 years and have completed her medical examination. Further interrogations of the accused are expected to clarify the full chain of events.
